I attended the University of South Carolina School of Law, graduating in 1993. While in law school, I was the research editor for The South Carolina Law Review, and I also worked for the Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee Robert F. Anderson in Columbia, South Carolina.
After serving as a law clerk for the Honorable Harry A. Beach in the Allegan County Circuit Court, I founded Russell A. DeMott, P.C. in 1997. Since that time, I have had the privilege of working on thousands of cases, representing clients and bankruptcy trustees in the areas of bankruptcy, criminal defense, family law, and litigation.
In 2005, Attorney John Van Elk joined our firm after 10 years as the Chapter 13 Trustee’s staff attorney, and the practice was renamed DeMott & Van Elk, P.C.
I am admitted to the Michigan and South Carolina Bar, the District Court for the Western District of Michigan, and the District Court for the District of South Carolina.
I am a member in good standing of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and the South Carolina Bankruptcy Law Association. I am especially pleased to be a contributing author for the Bankruptcy Law Network, an informational bankruptcy blog written by bankruptcy attorneys from across the United States.
